Founded in 1998 by a group of puppeteers and artists trained in the former Soviet Union, all members of the PuppetART troupe are masters of puppetry art theater. The Corktown Cinema is the reincarnation of the Burton Theatre. It will offer more space and exciting, new, independent cinema in the Corktown/Cass Corridor neighborhood of Detroit that features classic art house, independent, LGBT, foreign and cult films. Responding to the shortage of art house venues in the city, the Corktown cinema aims to help Detroit rival Chicago and New York as a center for independent film. The nation's first and only graduate repertory theatre company, charged with presenting six classic and modern plays in rotating repertory from October to mid-May. The company is composed of 40-45 actors, costume, lighting and scenic designer-technicians, stage managers and theatre managers who work under the direction of a professional staff.
